now's the time
to buy stones throw stuff if you want to get extra things in your package. jeff jank went to heroic efforts to drop off quas & med posters and stickers + a few stones throw 2005 samplers while he was in the bay area. BUT we are still waiting for our quas vinyl & fan club 45s along with the new tee (nosimoto), so actually, you might want to wait a few days before ordering. we'll set some parameters on what you have to buy to get what once we receive everything. if you've pre-ordered quas, don't worry, you'll be the first to get the 7".
answers to other recent st questions:
we're trying to order some of the european/australian stones throw cds that have the vocal + instrumental versions.
madvillain remixes not allowed to be shipped to u.s. stores (yet?)
Sound Directions is a project with Madlib + real live musicians in the vein of Yesterday's New Quintet. it WILL be released as a regular release on stones throw later.

LA to the BAY: Notes from the LA underground
from Mike the Poet...
The LA underground is bubbling with great artistry & music. Here is a Giant Peach exclusive sneak peak into a week of LA’s underground.
On April 17th Kajmere Sound, Stonesthrow Records & Ubiquity were joined by over 20 other indie labels & local record stores @ the Little Temple in Silverlake for the first Annual LA Independents Record Fair. It was a dream day for beat diggers & music lovers. Loads of vinyl, CD’s, DVD’s, t-shirts & other musical memorabilia were available. In addition to the three labels mentioned above, vendors included Dublab, Mush Records, Sealevel Records, Plug Research, Upon Shop, Glow in the Dark records, Soulphonic, Temple of Boom & several others. Each label/shop got to spin a half hour set. It was a day of community building. Everyone came together in the name of independent music.
Artists and dj’s stopping by included Afrobeat star Rocky Dawuni, DJ Drez of Aceyalone & Project Blowed fame, the lovely Dj Rashida, Shakespeare from Chocolate Bar, Carlos Nino from Build An Ark/Ammoncontact, Little Sci from Sol Uprising, DJ Jeremy Sole from Chicago, house dj Aztech Sol, Anthony from Samurai Records & many others. The architect of the event was Philipp Hoffman from Plug Research. Thanks for putting it together Philipp, let’s do it again soon!
It was the exclamation point on another magical week in the LA underground. A week before, many of the same folks were attending the Digable Planets/Breakestra show. Digable were in sharp form, showing no signs of their decade long hiatus. Their hour-long set included songs from both of their albums. The encore was “Cool Like That,” followed up by some freestyles over the Jaylib beat “The red.” Up-and-coming LA Dj Jedi spun with them. Jedi turned more than a few heads with his scratching ability. Before Digable, the Breakestra got the room rocking as usual. By the time DJ Dusk introduced Digable Planets, the El Rey Theatre was reaching a fever pitch. Dusk is the voice of the Root Down & a truly great rabble-rouser… “If you like hip-hop music make some mother#u##ing noooooiiiiiiissssssse & let me knooooooooooooow!”
The next day there was an epic barbeque in one of LA’s most covert neighborhoods Mt. Washington. Mt. Washington is a hilly area in Northeast Los Angeles above Cypress Park. Some of the large homes are slightly run-down, this is part of the charm. With the thick chaparral foliage cascading the hills, Mt. Washington is truly one of the most beautiful ‘hoods in the City of Angels. The party was held in a hilltop home once owned by Charlie Chaplin & used for old Hollywood parties in the ‘20’s & ‘30’s. The view from this crib is incredible. On this Sunday, it was a birthday party for DJ Jeremy Sole & Chris Haycock. Dj’s included Jamie Strong from Ubiquity, Damon Bell, DJ Dusk, DJ Expo, Mixmaster Wolf of the Breakestra, Nobody & Kutmah. The sounds were an irie collage of Sunday funk, reggae, dub, dancehall & downtempo. The party began @ 3PM & went well past midnight. The band Burning Star played, there were many freestlye ciphers & some people were even getting frisky in the several tents set up along the hillside. The climax of the night was when singer-songwriter Megan Jacobs & soul singer Bintu did an improv set with Burning Star’s rhythm section. The prevailing spirit of this event was sharing.
Much like the vibrant scene up in the Bay, The brilliant artists of LA’s underground are building coalitions to spread the word of good music around the world. Every night there is something goin’ down…
To the Giant Peach family, thank you for your support & if you’re ever in LA, holla!!
There’s something beautiful goin’ on!! Signing off from the LA underground,
Your friend,
Mike the PoeT

oh hell no

i had to see the photos to believe this...Copywrite getting smacked down by Camu Tao. According to hhdb, "ODOT (Kingdom, Tage Proto, and others) stood around and watched. Copywrite came equipped with brass knuckles but they backfired when he used them incorrectly and broke his finger". is this a joke?

@ it again
or, i should say, i'm way too old for this...anyway, these are a very small fraction of the photos that were taken yesterday at the cresent moon/p.o.s./greyskul/atmosphere show at bottom of the hill in sf. these were just a few candids i took before the show. there are plenty of performance shots yet to be posted.

randy, the man in charge...hard at work.

pat has been playing drums with not only atmosphere but a number of other well respected acts. i'm sure this is not the last you will hear of him...

i should have known upper playground was going to go bananas with a rse photo shoot (i believe i was the one who told j-bird, "there won't be any lights or anything"...wait til you see the pictures dylan took!

recluse from greyskul modeling some upper playground/ricky powell.

the bartenders at b.o.t.h. were so nice...especially since we were posted up at the bar for the greater part of 7 hours (um, i thought we were going to go eat). jason brought us drinks, and he wasn't even working...
